another unpopular opinion: act 5 act 1 is bad af and breaks the pacing completely. i know, i know, you can start throwing your rocks now.
Honestly it was completely deliberate in that regard but i guess malliage varies of how well done it is.

Unpopular opinion but I see this every time there's an update but I think it's good that the comic is vague about what classpects are or what they do because it theoretically allows the writer(s) to use basic ideas like witch/maid/knight/etc of time/mind/blood/etc and use them in interesting or surprising ways. I say theoretically because I don't want to get into whether or not it actually pays off.

Any official answer to what classpects are will always be disappointing.

I'd rather there not ever be an official answer to Classpect stuff. And I think if Hussie really wants to stick to his 'the fandom owns homestuck now and canon is not real' shit, then he'd be better off not doing so either.
We'll see that all the canon information we have about Classpect is always as vague as physically possible, little droplets of fish food to give people a base to build theories off of.

Something that probably nobody cares about but that really gets under my skin is how the first batch of kids and trolls are 13. Not that I have a problem with 13 year old protagonists, but they act like they're way older. Heck, they're more mature, talented, and emotionally stable than many adults, let alone children. I didn't even know what the word "fuck" was when I was 13.

All the 13 year olds I knew when I was 13 were little hellions who said tons of curse-words up to, including, and expanding upon "fuck."

One time a kid said to me "I'm gay, not emo." That was the oddest experience I've ever had.

A friend of mine took my other friend's phone and changed all the wallpapers and icons to gay porn.

Trust me, the Homestuck kids act very similar to real 13 year olds.

You weren't an idiot, PungeonMaster! I think it just depends on which crowds you were around as a 13 year old, as well as the suspension of disbelief necessary for a story like Homestuck (I always classify it as a Shonen Iisekai that didn't know it was a Shonen Iisekai). When the story is about a grand, fantastical adventure in the world of the Internet, the Beta Kids would behave most similarly to a standard Fantasy Protagonist like Ness from Earthbound or Izuku from MHA, i.e. they would be varying flavors of mature and capable of handling the crazy reality-bending parts of their story. Some are clearly better at handling it than others, such as Jade who was raised in it through living on Prospit in her dreams, and Dave who was literally trained by his older brother to be prepared for the shit hand destiny was dealing them. They are also going to behave the way a child would while on the internet, so they'd be very irresponsible with their language lol

Aight, Calamity, I appreciate you trying to make me feel good and all, but I was a goddamn idiot when I was 13. You wouldn't believe the shit I did. Granted, now it's behind me.
I guess Homestuck is like an anime in some regard. ( Note the only anime I've seen as Jojo's so I don't quite know what "Shonen Iisekai" is besides a kind of anime, and most of what I do know is from my one friend who sometimes tells me about anime.) I say that by virtue of the fact that these kids, no matter how much colorful language they use, are kids, but are all totally combat experienced and ready to take on all the death and other awful stuff Skaia throws at them and just be completely chill about all of it. I don't even remember that John cries once, and I don't think that's just my bad memory speaking.

To be fair, the kids are written by an adult man. There's a bit of a challenge there.

* i don't care for davekat. there's no deep meaning behind this, i just (heavily!) prefer strider with other characters. like john. or terezi. or jade. or rose.

* i'm unsure if this is an unpopular opinion, but the official ending (& what i've glanced of the epilogues) has me feeling so...disappointed. i was hoping hs would take one of those "reset" routes that you--or i--often see in fic; e.g. everyone goes home, everyone gets reunited with their lusii/parents & works through their issues, while still retaining some form of godhood? i know that's not exciting (??) enough but i do love cozy, happy sol conclusions.

* (i'm spoilering this one because it's somewhat petty i suppose) the current strain of hs fandom on twitter is so laaaaaaaame it's hard to relate THAT squeaky-clean hell to how it used to be.

* & while i'm thinking of karkat, i've always imagined him as being real big and brawny vs the waif shortboy he's oft fanonized as.

Yeah, totally agree. The biggest problem with modern Homestuck IMO is how the authors refuse to get off Twitter. Twitter is such a goddamn awful, toxic place to center your community around.

I am seriously debating just torching my twitter and running, social media has its upsides but it mostly just leaves me at the very least peeved every time I go onto it.
I get that it can be useful at times but why should I spend time at a place that leaves me miserable more often than not?

because i instinctually open it at every turn of the day ffs

I'm reviving this thread to say that Act 6 is better than Act 5 and HS is better than PS.

Really I don't think there's a clear-cut "better" between the two. I personally prefer act 6 but I see why people dislike it. I really just wish some of the authors stopped treating people who prefer acts 1-5 like trash.

Yeah valid. I mean strictly speaking it's literally as subjective as a thing can be, so there's no objective better. I don't know anything about what authors do that isn't official content.
6 is better tho.

i mean if you like endless drama and walls of text that dont advance the plot at all (note that im not saying pointless banter is bad for a comic, the thing is that act 6 overdid it) yeah sure its better but as you said, theres no 'objecitve' good in this.
ANYWAY.
my unpopular opinion: i think that Roserezi is not that good and that it fucks narratively with both character's motivations

Really, I don't think I CAN'T see 2009 Dave as being one of those kids who would almost definitely be slinging those slurs. Although, I doubt he would ever use the hard r. Dave may be a rapper at heart but his rap game doesn't go THAT hard. It's kinda lame to be honest.
