how do i change my username. am i a dum dum

alright so like. ive looked through all the user preference panels, checked all the settings, i cant find the way to change my username, it says that i should be able to under the tidbit about typing the current password to change it. but it just shows my current username. and i cant retype it out. am i missing something?
