Is Hs^2 acautally dead now?

Post by harmoniousCalamity » Wed May 12, 2021 9:02 pm

Okay so I know there's no official post as far as I'm aware, and I'm not entirely sure how much I can say, BUT the hs2 pateron has been archived and is available publicly, which makes me think hs2 is actually...dead?

Thoughts?

EDIT: I am incredibly slow, Hs2 is probably NOT dead, but their content has been leaked and archived on hs.net, regardless, thoughts?
HC: There are twelve main classes Muse, Seer, Knight, Witch, Rogue, Heir, Page, Thief, Mage, Prince, Bard, Maid, and Lord---
YN:[yeah dude. Sylphs are fucking gay.].
HC: Shut up!

I will buy and drink a 2-liter bottle of faygo on stream if Homestuck^2 comes back, and weep the entire time.

That's how certain I am of the fact that Homestuck^2 will never get finished.

No idea. To me, HS^2 is both dead and alive until observed.

I can never see it coming back. IIrc, they plan on finishing the whole comic and dumping online it all at once. Like, at least two years of work without pay or feedback, right? Yeah, I doubt it

Then again, I thought Homestuck would never come back

And I was right, it didn't :cal:

It isn't without pay, the pay is just up front from WP's fund's rather than patreon. The epilogues were posted all in one go without pay or feedback and, honestly they came out pretty decent.
"Feedback" is definitely a double edged sword, especially when you're posting something online with a large audience. The sheer volume of sycophants and haters drowns out genuine critique, and even that critique can pull you in so many directions that you can end up paralyzed or just compromising your own work. Being able to vet your work in progress with a smaller audience (either internal editors or friends doing QA) gives you a much more manageable volume of feedback to respond to, just enough to see your work from another perspective and its flaws or features. It also means that they can respond more candidly, since they don't have to keep in mind how much hate you've already gotten and have to deal with. It's a lot easier to say "yeah this part sucks ass and you should cut it" if you know the person you're telling it too hasn't already heard that about everything they done, and also, their existence.

Not to say it'll come out Great or Good, should it ever come out, just that being able to work without the kind of feedback they already had isn't necessarily a disadvantage.

I def agree on the feedback thing, but I was trying to get at the motivation aspect of it. I think it would be hard to get motivated with something as big and long as ^2 is. If the writers and money can keep themselves hyped for their project than that's great. But it's still missing a huge piece of what makes MSPAs/MSPFAs special, which is audience feedback and reactions. Then again, the critics and might demotivated them so who knows. I'm still betting that energy for this project is going die out

Well desu i didnt even like anything about hs2 yet and idk if i ever will so at this point i dont care anymore. Homestuck and its fandom is nearly dead, the last time it was still active was early 2020. There are some good fanfiction still going on but theres no way this fandom will still be alive in like a year or two.

After the "legal threat" scandals, I even doubt there will be any new official HS content in the future. (Yeah. No "commissioned" HS2 continuation. Not even Hiveswap Act 3-4. Let alone Hauntswitch.)

So yeah, I can say, the entire franchise is pretty much dead. No one will trust the officials anymore (they just went radio silent after the scandals revealed after all). The fandom, however, as I remembered, is still active with fanworks, fanzines, fangames and such. (Not to mention, the last SAHCon was crowded enough.)

If the Sarah Z arc is the last official homestuck content then I'm satisfied with that. It was an alright meta-ending all things considered.

I'm pretty sure we're still getting Act 3 in the future. They're kinda required to make it. Even if it takes ages. I don't know about Hauntswitch though.

I also don't think the legal threats were all that big? Like, yeah, they were big, especially in the Beyond Canon critical sphere (aka the vocal Homestuck fandom). But it's been three months and the legal threats video still hasn't surpassed a million views (though it is close). According to Google trends, Sarah Z has never gotten close to surpassing Homestuck's popularity. Twitter tends to exaggerate how big these issues are. There's still a large part of the Homestuck fandom that doesn't give a shit about "Drama." Unless Hussie kills a baby, they'll probably still buy whatever new content there is. On top of that, I've seen a few too many Homestuck defenders in the Sarah Z drama.

I know a lot of people have trust issues with What Pumpkin due to the long wait times between games, but the games still came out, even if it was way later than expected. I think it's safe to say that we'll hear some news at least before the series gets canned, if such a thing were to occur.

We're totally never getting the rest of ^2 though. Good riddance. :cal:
